Luke 5:1-11

Our Lord was always ready to preach the Word, not just in a church but in public, on a street corner, or even a fisherman’s boat. Souls need to hear the Gospel. Thus, any personal consideration is ignored. God’s work must be done now by any means possible.
We who serve Christ should learn from our Master. We must not wait until all obstacles or difficulties are removed before we share the Gospel or obey His will. We must take advantage of the opportunities He gives to us because He demands it and souls are perishing. Avoid excuses and be ready to take full advantage whenever the opportunity presents itself to obey Him—and be ever looking for that opportunity. God is always at work and so must we.
Notice how our Lord encourages ready obedience. His command to Simon receives the prompt obedience of a good servant and verse 6 tells us of Simon’s reward.
Here is a lesson for the wise. We are to give our Master a ready obedience to every command He gives. This obedience is not always easy and is often disagreeable to our personal comfort and the wisdom of this world. But none of these considerations or obstacles must stop us from obeying our Master. When He says “Go” we are to move immediately and straight forward. We must do our duty decidedly, boldly, and unflinchingly. When Jesus says, “Do it”, we are to walk by faith and not by sight. We must believe that what we do not see now to be reasonable and right, He may reveal to us to be so afterwards with His reward. We will find that obedience to the Master’s command is always, in the long run, the safest and most rewarding thing to do.
