Psalm 12 – Rely Only on God’s Truth

Mar 23, 2025 | Pastor's Blog, Psalms

Timeless Biblical Truth.

The world is full of arrogant deception and oppression and only God’s words are true and reliable.

  1. The words of humanity: The faithful believer prays to the LORD to deliver him from the deception of a godless culture (1-4).
    1. The faithful believer urgently prays for deliverance when the godly are few and people lack integrity (1-2).
    2. The faithful believer urgently prays that the LORD would destroy all verbal boasting and deception (3-4).
  2. The words of the LORD: The faithful believer trusts the LORD’S promise to deliver him from the violence and oppression of the world because His words are reliable (5-8).
    1. The LORD’S promise: The LORD promises to deliver the faithful believer from such painful oppression (5).
    2. The reason: Because the LORD’S words are absolutely reliable, the faithful believer trusts them amid a corrupted culture (6-8).

  3. How many different sins of a godless culture are mentioned in verses 2-4? How would these sins affect everyday living in such a culture? Do you see these sins in our culture?
  4. Do you see any of these sins in your life and interaction with others?
  5. Who speaks in verses 1-4 and who speaks in verse 5? What is the problem implied in verse 5? What does God say he will do? What reasons does the psalmist give to trust the LORD’S words? Do these reasons encourage you to trust God in difficult situations?
