Timeless Biblical Truth.

When the believer contemplates how creation and Scripture reveal the glory of the LORD, they will be moved to praise Him and make a deeper commitment to Him.

  1. Revelation in the world: The heavens constantly reveal the glory of God (1-6).
    1. The entire creation gives its witness to the glory of God (1-4a).
    2. The sun on its vigorous course dominates the heavenly proclamation (4b-6).

    1. The Scriptures reveal God’s will and transforms the lives (7-9).
    2. The Scriptures are both desirable and enjoyable because it enables believers to be pleasing to the LORD (10-11).
  3. Response to revelation: A fitting response to the LORD’S revelation of Himself is the confession of sin and the desire to be accepted by God (12-14).

    2. Believers need to pray to be preserved from presumptuous sins (13).
    3. Believers always pray that their words and thoughts are acceptable to the LORD (14).

Questions for Second Milers

  1. What are the two sources by which we can receive knowledge about God?
  2. What is the importance of having two witnesses. Why are both needed? Do they contradict or complement each other? If we have a revelation of God in creation why do we need one in Scripture?
  3. What specific things do we learn about God from creation (verses 1-6)? Cf. Mt 5:45 and Rom 1:19-21.
  4. Is the revelation in Scripture (verses 7-11) clearer and fuller than in creation?
  5. What specifically does the psalmist say about Scripture? List them.
  6. Notice, having written about God’s revelation, the psalmist makes a personal application. Should there be a practical application to our study of the Bible?
  7. What three kinds of sin are mentioned in these verses? Is there one listed here with which you struggle? What can you do today to change that situation?
  8. What are the two aspects of the prayer in verse 14? How can you make it your prayer now?
  9. To help you remember the contents of this psalm, give it a short title of your own.
