Psalm 28 – A Confident Cry for Deliverance from the Wicked and Their Destiny

Jul 13, 2025 | Pastor's Blog, Psalms

Timeless Biblical Truth.

Believers may confidently expect to be vindicated and delivered when the LORD judges the wicked for their evil deeds.

  1. Believers desire to be separated from the ungodly when God judges the wicked for their works and disregard for Him (1-5).
    1. Believers pray that the LORD will deliver them from the judgment coming on the ungodly (1-3).
    2. Believers desire that the LORD judge those who do evil and have no regard for Him (4-5).
  2. Believers express with confidence their praise that the LORD will completely deliver them (6-8).
    1. Believers praise the LORD because they are confident that He has answered their prayer (6).
    2. Believers praise the LORD because He gives them strength, protection, and deliverance (7-8).
    3. Believers pray for the LORD’S continued blessing and care (9).
Psalms 27 and 28 share some common themes. However, Psalm 28 has Psalm 27’s praise and lament in the reverse order. It does not matter whether in our prayers we put our petitions first and our praise second, or in the reverse order, as long as our prayers contain both. Stating our petitions confesses our need, and giving praise con-fesses our faith in Him who can meet them.

Questions for Second Milers

  1. What problem appears to be facing David? How does He respond?
  2. Why does David fervently bring his problem to God? Have you ever felt that God has given you the “silent treatment”? When? Why do you think He did? Did He eventually respond?
  3. Compare your problems to those David describes. How does David indicate his prayer has been answered?
  4. How has God heard your voice? Can you make verses 6-7 your own prayer?
  5. In what ways is the Lord your (i) strength, (ii) refuge, and (iii) shepherd?
  6. In Psalm 28, David’s prayer is answered. Are you always as thankful about God’s answers to your prayers?
  7. Give your own short title to this psalm.
