Psalm 29 – Praising the “Voice” of the LORD

Timeless Biblical Truth.

Believers (and angels) should praise their enthroned LORD who reveals His majestic power and gives peace to His people.

  1. Believers (and angels) are to praise their glorious LORD for His majestic power (1-2).
  2. Believers should praise the LORD for His sovereign control over nature by His powerful word (3-9).
    1. By His word, the LORD causes powerful storms (3-8).
    2. By His word, the LORD causes creation and destruction, moving His people praise Him (9).
  3. Conclusion: The LORD, in His sovereignty, can bless His people with strength and peace (10-11).
    1. The sovereign LORD reigns forever over nature (10).
    2. The LORD blesses His people with strength and peace (11).

  1. Restate verses 1-2 so that they constitute a definition of worship.
  2. Trace the course of the storm in verses 3-9. What qualities of God are revealed in the storm and its aftermath?
  3. Use your sanctified imagination to picture how God reveals His sovereignty.
  4. How does this psalm help you to attribute to the Lord glory and strength?
  5. Give your own short title to this psalm. By doing this, you will personalize and remember this psalm better.
