Psalm 87 – Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken, Zion, City of Our God

Sep 27, 2026 | Pastor's Blog, Psalms

Timeless Biblical Truth.

The city of God, Zion, the LORD’S dwelling place, is glorious and is the place where believers of every nation worship.

  1. Believers speak of how special Zion, the LORD’S dwelling place, is (1-3).
  2. Believers acknowledge that the LORD makes all who believe in Him to be native residents of His city (4-6).
  3. Believers celebrate the city of God (7).

Questions for Second Milers

  1. What is God’s relationship to His city? How is His presence felt?
  2. How will those born outside it claim citizenship in Zion? Why? What celebration will accompany the claim?
  3. What would international allegiance to God mean for society?
  4. Will God say of you, “This one was born there”? Why?
  5. Give your own short title to this psalm. J. I. Packer, God Speaks to Man: Revelation and the Bible, 77.

“. . . it is only as we obey God up to the limit of our present insight into His will that our insight will be deepened and our vision enlarged. Live by the light you have as to the bearing of Scripture on your life, and you shall have more light; neglect the light you have, and you will actually darken it, so that in the outcome, you will have less. This solemn alternative faces every Christian every day of his life.”
