Luke 2:13-20

Angels were the first to praise God when Christ was born—not men—angels who had never sinned, who needed no Savior, and did not require a Redeemer and His atoning blood.
From their rejoicing we learn (1) what good servants the angels are as all that God does pleases and interests them; (2) that they know the misery sin has brought into creation; (3) that they know the blessing of heaven; (4) that they have a deep love and compassion for sinful humans; and (5) that they rejoice in the glorious prospect of many souls being saved.
But while they rejoice, our spiritual ignorance leaves us cold. If we are to dwell with them in heaven, why do we not have some of their joy now on earth? Perhaps, if we realized the depth of our sinful misery, we would rejoice more in our salvation.
They highly praise God’s glory at the appearing of His Son who, by His life and death, will glorify God’s attributes: His justice, holiness, mercy, and wisdom.
Their song declares the coming to earth of God’s peace that passes all understanding, the perfect peace between a holy God and sinful man, which Christ was to purchase with His own blood, a peace that is freely offered to all, and, when once admitted to the heart, makes us live at peace one with another.
Their song declares that the time has come when God’s kindness and goodwill towards guilty man is to be fully made known. His mercy is fully revealed by the appearing and atonement of Jesus Christ.
Let us, like these angels, praise God for His great gift—His Son.
